4 Hikes To Tackle This Winter

Looking for something to do other than eat Japanese food at Daniel San? Try going for a hike on one of our fave local trails listed below…

SPIT TO MANLY

View of sydney harbour from the spit walk

One of Sydney’s more famous treks, the Spit to Manly is a must do if you haven’t already done it ten times (have you been living under a rock?). It’s a relatively easy grade 3, suitable for most ages and the main selling point is of course the cascading harbour views you’ll enjoy for pretty much the entire trek. The full hike is 10km but with multiple access points you can pick and choose how far you want to go.

DAVIDSON PARK TO STEPPING STONE CROSSING

Views of a green creek through bushland.

Looking for a little more bush and a little less crowd? Try tackling some of the famous ‘Great North Walk’ with the Davidson Park to Stepping Stone Creek Crossing walk. This little beauty is also part of the Oxfam Trail Walk so be prepared to meet some friendly like minded hikers. 5km one way or make it a 10km loop and finish with a picnic under the Roseville Bridge. Winning!

BARRENJOEY LIGHTHOUSE

Cascasing views of Barrenjoey Headland with clear skies and beautiful blue beaches.
Whilst Palm Beach is famously known for it’s Home & Away crew, there’s a lot more to do than just celebrity spotting! Try tackling the famous Barrenjoey Lighthouse walk. Take your pick from either the Smugglers Track (the harder of the two) or Access Trail (longer but easier). Once at the top, you’ll be blown away by the views. Head up during the winter months and you might be lucky enough to spot some whales!!

WEST HEAD LOOKOUT

Crystal clear waters breaking over some rocks.

Located directly opposite the Barrenjoey Lighthouse (probs quicker to swim than drive) lies the beautiful and historical West Head Lookout. With panoramic views that stretch as far as the Central Coast, the small national park entry fee is totes worth it. While the actual look out itself can get pretty crowded on the weekends, there are so many treks to get you off on your own ‘lil adventure. Our personal favourite is Flint & Steel Beach Loop (pictured). A quick hike down (but gruesome hike back up) to your own private beach. Well almost but we swear there is never more then a handful of people down there.

These four are just a small sample of whats on offer in the Northern Beaches. Don’t hibernate this winter, get amongst the great outdoors! We live in God’s country after all and did we mention that apparently walking makes you live longer? Burn those calories and then reward yourself with a well earned feast at Daniel San.
