5 Fun Facts about Kirin
The Kirin brand is filled with a weird and wonderful history. Let us show you why it is one of our fave beer brands!
Here at Daniel San we LOVE Beer, especially an ice cold Kirin. It’s a delicious beer hand crafted in Japan with traditional Japanese methods. To celebrate our long lasting frothy relationship, have a read of some fun facts to make it more than just a beer to you also.
131 YEARS YOUNG
Kirin was founded in 1888. That’s a long time to establish a great beer! Luckily they’ve mastered it and they are now located in 40 different countries.
NOTHING WILL TEAR THEM DOWN
Between 1914 – 1928, Kirin Brewery managed to survive the first world war & the great kanto earthquake! That is one sturdy business.
KIRIN IS A FIRST PRESSED BEER
First press describes the craft of extracting only the first press of liquid from the malt. This is when the ingredients are at their purest – much like extra virgin olive oil. Most brewers use a blend of first & second press, however Kirin is the only beer in the world to just use first press! It is how they get their unique, balanced, pure taste.
Kirin is best paired with the Sunshine on a hot day & our delicious Chicken Teriyaki Poké Bowl. Light & refreshing, just like the beer!
MORE THAN JUST A BEER
Kirin has partnered with Broadsheet to create a series of creative ventures. Starting with video interviews with Japanese restaurant owners & head chefs about their inspirations, background & methods – you can check them out HERE. Kirin also sent a camera, loaded up with 35mm film to photographers in Japan – it traveled between different photographers, capturing an image each with their first press – similar to Kirin’s First Press method of purity you can taste. It encouraged the photographers to slow down, focus & wait for the right moment. Have a look HERE
